On 1 May 2004, as a fitting way to mark the tenth anniversary of KölnKongress, the km 689 Cologne Beach Club was opened at the Tanzbrunnen complex. It was named after the river’s 689-kilometre mark.
The finest sand was brought in to cover an area of 3,500 square metres, and beach recliners, designer furniture and hammocks for up to 1,000 visitors were set up.
The residents of Cologne and their visitors were delighted to celebrate the opening of the km 689 Cologne Beach Club. Thanks to high-quality furnishings that offer a splendid way to chill out in the open air, and topped off with the food and drinks offered at its beach bars, Beach Club guests are more than delighted to enjoy this special atmosphere.
