The landscape concept surrounding Confex, developed by LILL + SPARLA, received a special recognition as part of the NRW Landscape Architecture Award 2026. The recognition honors a project that successfully combines innovative open-space design with sustainable and climate-resilient solutions.

The design of the outdoor areas was driven by the goal of promoting biodiversity while creating future-oriented spaces for people to gather and spend time. The concept was specifically developed to address the challenges of climate change: the areas are designed to withstand periods of heat and water scarcity while simultaneously creating new habitats for insects and birds.

A key element of the project is the use of 77 climate-adapted plant species. The landscape concept demonstrates how contemporary landscape architecture can contribute to making urban environments more resilient, sustainable, and livable while also creating high-quality spaces for visitors and guests.

The recognition by the BDLA jury underlines the project’s relevance as an example of sustainable open-space development and innovative urban design.

Our sincere thanks and congratulations go to LILL + SPARLA for their expertise, creativity, and outstanding implementation of this project.
